Next Level Up? (BD-Design)

by Bert @, Thursday, April 03, 2014, 13:16 (3648 days ago)

No idea yet but at least I now have one to measure up a bit and see where it could take me?

Orphean vs ???

Next step is to make a pair for listening and further experiments when time permits.... exciting!

Next Level Up?

Is this new or extended Oris150?

Maybe Orisor...

New...

Perhaps Razor?

First let's see what is does in practical situations. It's not too small although it will fit my Orelo's perfectly so if it is a level up then these will go in there to stay.

I think...

..YES!

:dancing:

At least the measurements show me less than 4% THD playing 105dB at 180Hz. I never play that loud so there are no mechanical problems to expect and the distortion will always be much less and therefore inaudible.

Me, interested and hooked on!

I thought you would liked it!

But it will take a while to have all in place but once they're playing then please do come over for a visit and check them out. ;-)

Next Level Up?

Hi Bert,

Will this use the same driver like Orphean?

Do you consider to make extend for Oris150 to fit with BMS's?

Hi Gasper,

Will this use the same driver like Orphean?

Yes,the only driver capable to go this low.

Do you consider to make extend for Oris150 to fit with BMS's?

Only when I have enough orders. Problem is the mould I have to make for production and the minimum quantity of materials to actually produce it. Think 12-15k as investment!

You can cut that little one in the left corner of the picture to fit in Oris150...  :swoon:

For manual work having an absolutely not nice looking but functional tooling then probably yes, something like that will work for making a few. Bringing it into serious production for high quality parts is another story...

Size matters...

by Bert @, Sunday, April 13, 2014, 10:24 (3638 days ago) @ Bert

...but not as much as I would have expected.

Comparing horns yes, BIG difference but within the system and a good integrated crossover most of the advantages can be eliminated. At least when used within my Orelo bass panels...

Not sure how equally much can be eliminated with a single bass system (not being a d'Apolito configuration) because that will be way more tricky if possible at all.

At least the big one makes life more easy to have it tuned right being more forgiving for errors made in the crossover.

For me this will be a keeper in my system (I just like things BIG!) but for reproduction?

Picture of the "renewed" NoNonse Orelo M1...

It looks small on the picture but in reality it looks a lot bigger with the horn being 78cm in diameter...

Nice!

Now I will have to consider seriously if upgrade to DX4 is the choice

Sorry about that and to put some salt into the wound I have to say that this combo sounds a whole lot better than a DX4.

I forgot how much difference it makes after the horns are painted making these speakers definitely the best sounding ones I've owned so far!

Nothing to worry about ...

Now I will have to sell 150/ref2010 and start DIY again from the base...
:cry::

Or you will have to make add for 150/bms...

Yep, that is the question I am fiddling with for a while now... problem is the price to pay for having the production set up properly.

All depends mainly on interest (demand) from people who also want to have such a big horn at home. Normally I would share my findings but since copycats are lurking I'll keep my mouth shut tightly.
