Hello,

I am interested in DIY D-class power amp using Tripath's TA2024 or TA2020 chip. Does anybody try this on horns or somethig simillar. I am trying to replace AN KIT 1. Any suggestion in helpful.

Regards,

Gasper.

Hi Gasper,

I tried, but left it again. A EL84 SE amp is doing the job better IMHO.
If you wan to try a low budget amp, you better start looking for a second hand tube amp or something like that.

On the other hand, it is cheap and if you are willing to experiment, it could be a nice project. Maybe with other gear and cables it could be more successful...

Hi Gasper,

Long time ago these were tried. I remember them to be very sensitive to impedance changes (even more than tube amps do!) and their sound to be grey(ish) as if a layer is on top of the sound.

Better try a good quality gain clone which will be at least honest and fast and dynamic as well. If a GC does not sound good then something else is wrong and needs tweaking (cabling, source as wel as speakers).

Cheers,

Bert
