Are the drivers loaded in the back or is it open baffle?
Steve
Open baffle...
by Bert , Sunday, July 08, 2012, 19:57 (4323 days ago) @ samoore
...which is not any problem with this 2m high and 1.2m wide "horn".
Its not about quantity either, it is but about quality...

This prototype is 54cm deep

Is this the depth of the horn part or the total depth including drivers?

Will you release drawings of it?

Will you release drawings of it?
Probably basic drawings yes but results may vary a lot as it is not just a horn panel with four BD15 bass drivers mounted in there...
As long as I can have guarantees that people do not fire back their own failures and blame me for that then I do not see a problem.
Precise details about everything will not be given yet, first I want to see what reactions I will get during the High-End show the 29th-30th of september as I am looking for a more commercial road for this system.
But the basic used principle is simple, if you make something close to this then you'll have at least 75% of the desired performance in the pocket.
In the drawing below showing 123 should be 1230mm and 17 should be 170mm
Cheers,
Bert

I guess what I meant to ask, is if there is going to be a diy version of this, just like your Reference. But I guess you are going for a more plug'n play system with this one. Anyways, good luck!

... waiting for reactions first and then decide what to do. You can always ask a local carpenter to built it up for you though, it will propably cost you the same in the end.
Bits and pieces can always be purchased through me anyhow.

Hi Bert,
cool looking project, once again!
Something's not quite right about the drawing ... I think??
Seems it's not drawn to scale, is that right? Or are dimensions wrong?
(I'm not referring to the change from mm to cm, but more the width to depth doesn't seem right. Perhaps it's just a sketch)
Anyway, good luck with the September 'launch'. It's so great what you come up with!

Thanks, enjoying it already as mono bass system wit a big smile on my face!

Dimensions are correct(ed). Scale is out of order...

Look's great, Bert. What are the various drivers?
Thinking outside the box...
by Bert , Monday, July 09, 2012, 09:22 (4323 days ago) @ Don Reid
Hello Don,
BD15 bass drivers and for now an AERmkI. Later this will be an AER BD4...
Of course the Orphean will be combined as well without the need for digital delays and such - all is perfectly time aligned.
The system shown is a prototype and only one of it exists so where it all will end and what the final concept will be is something we have to wait for.
Primarily tests show great performance in the bass range and that is the goal, no compromises.

Hi Bert,
Looks great! Not for small rooms I suppose... Is there a possibility to listen to it?

Hi Frank,
Its meant for small rooms too!
The're so big that they are not noticed as loudspeaker anymore...
The prototype can be heard here (as mono bass system) or in about 6 weeks in stereo.
You can also wait for the X-Fi show at the end of september, if you can hold it that long!

Is that a modified Orphean horn? It doesn't look like an easy modification to make to the horn for a DIY'er. Keep up the good work!

Thanks!
freq range? X/O ?
At this moment crossed at 233Hz
sensitivity?
No accurate info available but about 103dB (including losses)?
max spl?
VERY LOUD but depending on the deepest frequency. Down to 35Hz really a lot to die for!

including losses?
is that due to passive eq on bass section?
if so, can it be done actively, like I do on my BD towers with Trio?
just to avoid loosing efficiency in the bass section......

including losses?
Yes, its an open baffle so frequencies below 80Hz (prototype) will be cancelled more and more while going deeper in frequencies.
...at 150Hz the sensitivity is about 112dB.
Cheers,
Bert
