A Tale Of Three Woofers (BD-Design)

Hello Bert,

Did you already see this 15" Woofer Survey on http://www.enjoythemusic.com/diy/1211/15_inch_woofers.htm ? Very well written, I would say.

The verdict: "Listened to, unfiltered, the BD has by far the best performance".

Kind regards,
Eddie

No I didn't, thanks for the pointer!

Yeah, that gives a nice touch to the story. Pity that he did not use the optimum volume and tuning for each bass driver which probably would alter the story to be a bit more objective but still the results could be the same in the end.

I prefer less bass with more control and accuracy, it is so easy to EQ the loss in output and then have an almost perfect bass for domestic use.

Cheers,

Bert

Hi Leif,

are there others in addition to me that run 4 BD15 per channel?

Yes, you're not the only one...

maybe even with short horns in front?

Not with multiple drivers per channel. I am thinking of making a short vertical square front loaded horn having 2 drivers per channel. Option to stack them too of course for people who need more output...

Yes of course I know about the other in Norway who copied my setup...
what about yourself?
I asked you about hornloading of my towers earlier;
is it anything to gain for me by getting square short horns infront of the BD15s?
maybe different if I decide to go for Orphean without Trio midbass horns between towers and Orphean and lowpass tower up too 270 ?
best

Hi Leif,

is it anything to gain for me by getting square short horns infront of the BD15s?

Absolutely but wouldn't it be better to create one tall "lens" to cover the whole length? It would look better but then still, it will be pretty HUGE as you're not using the possible space at the sides of this lens.

My idea is to incorporate such a lens within the needed volume normally needed for the bass driver and also having things easy to time align acoustically.

In the basics something similar in design to this one...

...but then taller of course.

maybe different if I decide to go for Orphean without Trio midbass horns between towers and Orphean and lowpass tower up too 270 ?

If the extra consumed space is not a problem then yes, the Trio horn will then not bring anything extra...
