New forum, new features... (Forum)

by Bert @, Friday, March 07, 2008, 20:37 (5888 days ago)

As you might have noticed, the forum has been changed. For the better I think with new features and some "gadgets" that might be of use.

If you would look around this new forum layout you will find most changes along the way anyhow but perhaps it is good to point out a few newbies like:

  • New editorial functions as:
    • The list option to sum up points more clearly visible
    • Coloured, large and small text options to improve "emotions" within your message
    • Tags, words of interest you can put there to make it more easy to find posts related to that topic
      • ...or even deeper nested if needed
  • FAQ link at the top, here some basic forum functions are explained as well as the policy used.
  • Preview window so that you can have a preview of a message by clicking the icon [image] without actually opening the whole message
  • The Open Thread icon [image] which will open the whole thread so that you can read all messages without the need to click on each reply
  • Collapsing or expanding the threads (link at the top right on the main page for all topics or the link in front of the topic by clicking on the icon [image] for each topic) to have a better overview on the main pages.
  • White background in the table view or opened threads for more contrast to read and if this is too bright then use the old coloured background as used before (threaded view).
  • Last postings window showing links to the latest messages posted
  • Uploading your Avatar and add more information than before to your own user menu (click here to view my example which will only be visible when you are registered and logged in!)
  • Extended information available (if applied) about registered users (only accesible for other registered users!)

There is more under the hood though which you will find out in time which hopefully will be of use to you all.

Please enjoy the forum, I hope you can use most of the new features to your own preferences.

Thanks

I can see everything written and whatever is put in the message...what do you mean? Can you send me a screendump to show as I have no clue about what you are telling me?

If I use the *refresh* button, all shows.

But give me time, I'll find the sucker. :grazy:

Well, I think I have browsed through so to speak all OS settings on my PC since the new Forum design were introduced.

In 90% of all cases only the *smileys* show. No text.

1) In between *refresh* helps but rarely

2) Sometimes the text shows (coockie?)

3) Sometimes text shows after 20 seconds

Any ideas out there?

GC,

Does it happen on multiple browsers? I mean like both Internet Explorer and Firefox?

No Bill

It's randdomly. All other webs I don't have this kind of things. I can however always read the repply in the "RSS Feed of thread".

Sometimes I can se nothing *nothing* or *smileys* or *quoted text*.

One thing seems effective. Ctrl/alt/del/anull. Then it's intact.

If I want to make a screeen dump of and empty open subject, the proceedure of screen dumping get's the text back.

:sorry:

So are you saying it happens with both Internet Explorer and Firefox?

No only on this forum.

That's not what I meant. I am wondering if you have tried accessing this forum with multiple browsers, i.e. Internet Explorer and Firefox, and if so, do you see the problem with both browsers?

by Bert @, Thursday, March 20, 2008, 09:04 (5875 days ago) @ GC

Hi GC,

Which browser are you using for going on the Internet? There are several browsers available like:

  • MS Internet Explorer
  • FireFox
  • Safari
  • Netscape
  • Opera
  • Mozilla

Is the one you use also the latest version (recently updated)?

Hi Bert

MS Browser as always.

No, guys I think I have to consult my own IT dept. to solve this. I use latest up-dates. Yes. Always. It's updated automatically through my VPN tunnel at each and every PC turn on.

But as it is, it is very troublesome to follow this forum.

Update from IE6 to IE7...

by Bert @, Thursday, March 20, 2008, 10:16 (5875 days ago) @ GC

Thanks for the screendump. Now I can see what you mean but it is not just the text that does not show properly, even the images do not show as they should (PNG).

You are using version 6 (old!) and not version 7...that is the problem!

Update from IE6 to IE7...

by GC, Sunday, March 23, 2008, 10:23 (5872 days ago) @ Bert

Well...I tried of course to download IE 7, buuuuuuuut....I run still W 2000 on this PC where I am following the forum.

This is my prof. working PC station and I am stuck a little with W 2000 as some of our older SW programes still run under W 2000 and I have to have acces to those.

Only the administrator can alowe me to download up-dates.

I have however a LT with XP IE7, but it also means I have to have two machines running on my table desk.

Cruel world. :unhappy:

Thanks,

Seems to give no problem here...somehow the old data that was transferred to this forum did show problems for those characters (only in German posts).
