back chamber (Oris Horns)

A guy I know has horns similar to 150's with Lowther Pm2a's ( i think) and likes them open at the back I.E. no back chamber. Has anyone tried this? What does the back chamber provide?
My play with open baffles speakers revealed a more open and free sound compared to similar cost box speakers. Less colouration. I have enjoyed electrostatic speakers so maybe the flavour of dipole speakers is to my liking.

It privides proper loading of the horn (no cancellation). Without the back chamber or fully open will give a dip around 200Hz making its respons less effective down to 150Hz. Advantage is more "freedom" and less "closed-in" sound...

So, what some call "Open Sound" is nothing more than a dip, in this case around 200Hz. And reality is "closed-in". I'll take the disadvantage!

Not just that, less pressure behind the drivers with a rather thin and weak diaphragm makes them sound "cleaner" too..

With Lowther ticonal pm6as in 'em. I've got my 150s in the ceiling corners of my room, which perhaps fills in below 200 HZ since they're working in 1/8-space. The arrangement seems to work OK for me. Cheers!
