Oris 250/Orphean (Orphean)

by premprks @, Wednesday, July 26, 2006, 19:15 (6474 days ago)

Finally I have decidecd to buy Oris. Now I am using Lowther Ex4 in TQWt( Ace Horn). I am worried about the following.

1 To go for 250 or Orphean with BMS drive
2 What is the minimum distance required from the walls. My room is small.
3 What is the minimum listening distance required for proper integration.
4 Can Ex4 be used in 250/Orphean.

Oris 250/Orphean

Hi Pks

1 To go for 250 or Orphean with BMS drive

Both will satisfy you, but I bet on you will be more happy with the Orphean. They are superior to anything I've heard and worth every penny. No, it is even cheap compared to the value you get.

It is a petty that the Orpheans are not yet spread in bigger numbers, which I strongly beleive they will be, so that more people can hear what this phenomenal horn is capable of.:satisfied:

Best wishes

Oris 250/Orphean

Thanks for the reply. Little concerned about placement. The distance from the back and sidewall and the listening distance. I am waiting for Bert's comment on the placement.
Also I do not like too much HF energy. Coaxial dirvers are notorious for that.

thanks

Hi Pks,

Also I do not like too much HF energy. Coaxial dirvers are notorious for that.

The balance of the coaxial compression driver is created by the filter used. It is possible to give them a proper balance if the work is done as it should. I do not like too much of anything...

Hi Pks,

Great!

2 What is the minimum distance required from the walls. My room is small.

You can put the horns close to the walls, even corners won't be much of a problem but some experimenting with the angle should be done.

3 What is the minimum listening distance required for proper integration.

The present filter for the Orphean is tuned for a listening distance of >3m

4 Can Ex4 be used in 250/Orphean.

No, the Orphean is only for use with a compression driver (2" throat). The Oris 250/8 is for use with 8" drivers like your EX4's.

With the EX4's you can listen from a distance of more than 2m for proper integration. The horns need a separate bass system though...

Is this the minimum distance. What about sitting 1.5 m to 2 mtr. My room is small

How small is your room?

You can listen closer but then you'll have to toe the Orphean more to the inside and listen more off-axis. The high frequencies will be a bit too strong when listening real close...

Hi Pks,

I really appreciate your sincere reply. If siiting close will have HF energy Should I go for Oris 250. Can I use Ex4 in that and Is it okay to sit with in 1.5 to 2 m position for ORIS 250 + Ex4 combination.

I can sell my EX3 and go for your driver if that is advisabel. I need a mellow sound.

Also suggest which BAss enclosure to go for . BAsic or Ultra.

thanks

It is my experience that the EX4 sounds better in the ORIS horn if you remove the back chamber thus making it into a DX4. (My opinion, anyway)

You can sit close with that combination, even with the EX3's. I would go for the DX4 though (the same but then without the so called module at the back of the driver.

I can sell my EX3 and go for your driver if that is advisabel. I need a
mellow sound.

If you need a mellow sound then I would suggest the AERmkI in the Oris 250's. That would be the most mellow and natural sounding among the full-range drive units, especially when listening close.

Also suggest which BAss enclosure to go for . BAsic or Ultra.

In combination with the 150 bass horn the Ultra would be best, without the horn you should have the Basic bass enclosure.
