Quasar question (BD-Design)

Hi-
The Quasars look very good. I have some Visaton B200s, some ribbon tweeters and nice Parts Express/ Dayton IB 15s designed for infinite baffle. All drivers are high Qts and high efficiency. My question has to do with baffle thickness: do the multiple layers effect dispersion of the rear wave? I prefer the Quasar design to the Visaton No BB, which I was going to build...

Thanks,

Harry Z

Hi Harry,

...do with baffle thickness: do the multiple layers effect dispersion of the rear wave?

The multiple layers create a sort of tube making the "width" of the baffle a bit wider without negative influence on the bass when you cross around 250-300Hz. The mid-range is more effected which is helping low Q drivers but might disturb high Q drivers. If that is the case then you should apply damping material behind that driver.

What if I were to make the holes increasingly wider with each layer behind the midrange driver in order to accommodate the back wave?

the midrange driver in order to accommodate the back wave?

That would reduce the tube effect but could start a horn effect which might be more disturbing... there is only one way to find out.
