Singular DIY with AER mk I. (Singular)

Hi Yehuda,

I am looking for recommendations about the Singular DIY with AER mk I.
How does it sound compare to other systems? (Medallion II with Lowther or
other horns)

I own a 300B set, Quad QC-24 pre and Audio Note DAC.
I listen to Pink Floyed, Jethro Tull, Jazz and the like.

Will it fit my system and taste?

The Singular plays deeper frequencies with less colouration compared to "normal" sized back loaded horns (nicer with Pink Floyd and such) but horns provide more body and mid-bass (nicer with Jazz and small classical ensembles).

Taste is something personal, some like green, others prefer brown so it is hard to say what would be best for your system.

To have a good balanced sound with the Singular and AERmkI you'll need a bass heavy room or add an EQ-network to reduce the mid-high frequencies. Best would be to wait for a more suitable AER driver (in the works) that will be optimised for systems like the Singular.

For starters you could use the Fostex FE207E's which are relative cheap (no EQ needed too) and perform very well in the Singular, later when they're finished you can always upgrade to a suitable AER driver.

Ciao,

Bert
