My amp is Joe Rasmussen's JLTi (mark 1). http://members.ozemail.com.au/~joeras/ . It's a tube-buffered chip-amp. I've heard it against 47 Labs Shigaraki amplifier and against (though shortly) Bert Doppenberg's 300B amp. To me, the Shigaraki and JLTi sound virtually the same. The 300B has a slightly different character but the sonics are at the same quality standard. I've also heard some well implemented gainclones (using compact PCB's); and I must say: they are getting closer and closer to the original. There are also some plans of tube-buffering on DIYaudio (provided by Joe). On the other hand, making a nice chipamp is easy. Making a great chipamp is hard. That's why the use of PCB's is a smart move as well as tube buffering (but that's complex to build).
