Hello Ray,

Well, I've got CAD drawings done for the Ref Compact units ready for CNC machining. Unfortunately I caNot obtain 32mm thick Birch Ply. Will I be OK laminating 24mm birch ply and 9mm MDF (=33mm thick) or is it preferable to laminate 18mm and 15mm birch ply (also =33mm thick but quite a lot more cost).

The Ref Compact is originally designed for 32mm particle board having a specific panel resoance behaviour with related damping techniques used later on.

Using plywood and/or MDF makes it something else but nevertheless it can work out okay too. What to do is up to you here...

Birch + MDF will do okay making it nicely "dead" due to the different materials used. 18 + 15mm Birch would be overkill although stiffness has its advantages...

I am not sure about the quality of Birch you have access too but if possible go for full Birch and not the cheap Pine/Birch combo which almost looks the same but is only half the weight!

Bert
