As You mentioned, the important thing is good control on the bass, like the Crazy A delivers. That is difficult with a Rotel or NAD.
You could try to search for a Mitsubishi DA-10 - they are cheap second hand and acceptable.
My experiments with a push-pull Kt 88 Amp showed, that I had to use the 4 Ohms tab for best results - i.e. control.
Another alternaivr would be one of the Hiraga or First Watt clones, when You build it Yourself.
