Forum linking.. (Forum)

In the database all messages have a number. When a user is linking to
another message then it depends in which view he is making a copy of that
message. If he is looking at board view than the message he copies is
called: index?number.

If somebody is reading the forum in thread view then such a link will
bring him to board view without asking...?

Would it be possible that the forum only writes the number of the message
and that it stays in the preferred view of the user when he clicks on it?

Bert, allow me to answer this question :

Theoretically yes, practically no.
There will be too much involved, because such links are all over the place hence *everywhere* in the software. It's just a design "error".

PS: An approach would be rerouting of the URLs, that is, if the webserver software would be under your control (which it is not).
